Indonesian Police and Military threaten to shoot at West Papuan peace rally

Yesterday the Indonesian government sent two more TNI battalions to West Papua with threats to shoot indigenous West Papuans today during a rally in Jayapura.

The rally, organised by the Federated Republic of West Papua, is honouring West Papuan political prisoners and calling for their liberation.

Rallies across the territory this week commemorate the day, 1 May, forty-nine years ago when the United Nations issued the Indonesian Republic with rights of administration over the Dutch colony.
