UPCOMING PROTEST OUTSIDE INDONESIA CONSULATE

Dear all,

Just to follow on from my previous email. The written work was by a 15-year-old high school student from Victoria, who decided to write about the West Papua issue for a school assignment. The words inspired me to think about the power of people, especially Australian people, to pressure the Australian Government and make it known that the current situation in West Papua will not be tolerated.

On September 22nd, I attended a US Congressional Hearing in Washington with several West Papuan leaders. It is clear, from the outcome of the Hearing, that the US and Australian Government believe the West Papua issue will be resolved under Special Autonomy. In fact, by promoting Special Autonomy, they are giving the green light to the Indonesian Government to continue killing innocent people.

As you may have already seen, a report has been published in the Age and the Sydney Morning Herald about two Papuan men who were tortured at the hands of Indonesian authorities. The graphic video footage, which was posted on Youtube, has already been removed, but featured on SBS World News tonight.

In response to ongoing abuse and torture in West Papua, we are holding a protest outside the Indonesian consulate in Melbourne.

Date: Friday 22nd October, 2010
Location: Indonesian Consulate, 72 Queens Rd, St Kilda
Time: 12pm

I'm looking forward to seeing you there and believe your presence will have a significant impact.

Kind regards,
Herman
