RALLY AT INDONESIAN CONSULATE

Following shocking footage of the torture of a West Papuan man by Indonesian forces included in an SBS news report, we are holding a protest outside the Indonesian consulate in Melbourne demanding an end to ongoing abuse and torture in West Papua.

SOLIDARITY @ FED SQUARE

Date: Tuesday 9th November 2010

Location: Federation Square

· To be confirmed: Screening on the giant Fed square screen of live link up footage from Manokwari, West Papua, at the culmination of a week-long fast for West Papuan independence.

· West Papuan music and Cassowary dancers.

Following a congressional public hearing on 22nd September, the West Papua National Authority, the transitional government of West Papua, is working together with International solidarity, especially in New York and Washington, where the ‘Washington solutions’ conference is to be held on the 9th November. This conference will seek to find a way to implement self determination in West Papua, not special autonomy.

The 1st December is remembered by West Papuans as the day they should have been
granted independence over 40 years ago. The national day of celebration will be held in Manokwari as well as celebrated by the West Papuan community in Melbourne.
